A 63-year-old Swedish man has died in Phuket after being found with unexplained bruising and injuries at a hotel in Bang Tao, with Thai police investigating the circumstances surrounding his death, according to Thaiger.
Hotel staff found the man lying face-down at the Cherng Talay property on September 17. He was conscious and declined medical treatment. The following morning, he was found again near a bathroom, suffering convulsions, and was taken to Thalang Hospital. He died later that evening, September 18.
An initial examination found wounds and bruising, but the cause of death was not immediately established. His body was sent to Vachira Phuket Hospital for a post-mortem examination. Police are investigating his movements and condition before his hospitalisation and have not said whether foul play is suspected.
The Swedish Embassy and Thai immigration authorities are assisting the investigation. Swedish public broadcaster SVT reported that Sweden’s Foreign Ministry confirmed the death and said the man’s relatives had been informed.
