Thailand’s Civil Aviation Authority (CAAT) will introduce new baggage security rules from October 16, allowing airport officers to open checked luggage without passengers being present if X-ray screening detects suspicious or prohibited items, Thaiger reports.
The measure aims to strengthen airport security and align Thailand’s procedures with international standards. All inspections will be recorded, and passengers will receive a notice inside their luggage explaining that it has been opened for inspection.
Security officers may remove prohibited or dangerous items found during checks. CAAT advises travellers to review baggage rules before departure to avoid delays.
The new regulation follows stricter rules introduced earlier this year on power banks and spare lithium batteries, which are now only allowed in carry-on luggage and cannot be used or charged during flights.
