Air travel in Thailand is about to get more expensive.
From June 20, international passengers will pay a higher departure fee at six of the country’s major airports, including Suvarnabhumi, Don Mueang and Phuket, Bangkok Post reports.
Airports of Thailand (AOT) will raise the international passenger service charge from 730 baht to 1,120 baht.
The increase applies only to outbound international travellers.
According to AOT, the additional revenue will be used to upgrade airport infrastructure. Planned improvements include expanded passenger terminals, new automated check-in systems, and enhanced safety technology.
AOT president Paweena Jariyathitipong said the move is part of a broader modernisation effort across the airport network.
She added that the higher fee is not expected to significantly affect travel demand.
Thailand also pointed out that its revised charge remains competitive in the region.
Officials compared it to Singapore, where international passengers reportedly pay around 1,600 baht in equivalent fees.
