Thailand and Sweden are looking to expand trade and investment cooperation, with more than 100 Swedish companies already operating in Thailand.
Thai Trade Representative Werapong Prapha met Swedish Ambassador Anna Hammargren at Government House in Bangkok to discuss ways to strengthen economic ties and support efforts towards a Thailand-EU free trade agreement.
Swedish companies operating in Thailand employ more than 19,500 Thai workers, according to the Thai side. Discussions also covered concerns raised by Swedish businesses over customs procedures and technical regulations, as Thailand works to improve its business environment.
Sweden is currently Thailand’s second-largest Nordic trading partner. Bilateral trade reached US$1.17 billion in 2025, including US$447 million in Thai exports.
Trade between the two countries totalled US$617 million in the first half of 2026, with Thai exports including air conditioners, automotive parts and rubber products.
Hammargren also confirmed Sweden’s readiness to work with other Nordic countries in supporting Thailand’s efforts to join the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD).
The meeting comes as Thailand seeks to attract further foreign investment and strengthen economic ties with European partners.
