Sweden donates USD 2.5 million to tsunami trust fund

On 6 December, Sweden’s Minister for International Development Cooperation, Ministry for Foreign Affairs, Ms Carin Jämtin visited Bangkok where she presented the United Nations Economics and social development in Asia and the Pacific (UNESCAP) with a USD 2.5 million donation to the Multi-Donor Voluntary Trust Fund for Tsunami Early Warning Arrangements in the Indian Ocean and Southeast Asia. Thailand contributed USD 10 million to the fund this summer. The Swedish delegation led by Carin Jämtin did also pay a courtesy visit to Dr. Kantathi Suphamongkhon, Thailand’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, where they discussed the upcoming joint plan of action between Thailand and Sweden, which is expected to be signed soon.


Before Bangkok, Carin Jämtin visited tsunami struck areas in Indonesia, especially in the Aceh area.
