A 50-year-old Danish man was arrested in Pasay City, Philippines, after a dispute with hotel management over unpaid charges and alleged damage to hotel property, Manila Bulletin reports.
According to local police, the man, identified as “Lars,” checked into a hotel in the Salem Complex on May 13 and initially paid for one night’s stay. He later requested an extension of his booking until the afternoon of May 14 and agreed to additional fees.
When staff later checked the room, they reported damage to a safety box inside the room, valued at approximately ₱3,000. The hotel also said the guest had violated its no-smoking policy, resulting in additional penalties.
The hotel stated that the total amount due, including room extension fees and penalties, was around ₱5,300.
When the guest did not settle the bill, hotel staff detained him and contacted police. Officers from Pasay City Police Station later took him into custody.
He is being held pending the filing of charges for estafa and malicious mischief. The case remains under investigation.
