The new tariffs aim to ensure a fairer and more competitive market.
The European Commission formally decided on Tuesday to increase tariffs on electric vehicles produced in China to up to 45.3 percent when imported into EU countries.
This follows an investigation into Chinese state subsidies for the electric vehicle industry, leading to an October decision to impose an additional 35.3 percent tariff on top of the existing rate of ten percent.
The higher tariffs will take effect on Wednesday, according to a senior EU official, as reported by Reuters.
