Norwegian seafood seminar and dinner held in Bangkok

On Monday 28 May, Chargé d’Affairs a.i., Mr. Vegard Holmelid delivered a speech at the Norwegian Seafood Seminar and Dinner hosted by the Norwegian Seafood Council (NSC). This was an event where many of the leading actors in the Thai seafood market could meet with the 13 Norwegian Seafood exporters that are participating at this year’s THAIFEX – World of Food Asia.

In his speech, Mr. Holmelid spoke about the tremendous growth in export of Norwegian seafood, most notably salmon, to Thailand. The demand from the Thai consumers has been increasing for several years. Today, Norwegian salmon constitute more than 90% of all fresh salmon sold in Thailand, and Thailand is the biggest market for Norwegian salmon in Southeast Asia.

Jon Erik Steenslid, Regional Director of the NSC concluded the seminar by underlining that all indicators suggest that the Norwegian Seafood adventure in Thailand will continue to grow. For 2018, he expects the export to Thailand to grow with 15-20% from last year.
