Police shoot at Drunk Dane’s truck; bullet hit officer

Mr. Yagn Zehngraff, 57, from Denmark was arrested after trying to drive through a police checkpoint near Pratumnak Hill. The drunk Dane was fleeing from an accident in Jomtien.

Police shot out two tires on his pickup truck and arrested him but a stray bullet hit one officer in his knee, a local newspaper reported.

The incident occurred at a police checkpoint set up on the road behind Khao Pratumnak. The 10 Chonburi police officers on duty were alerted that a pickup truck had just collided with a car at Hanumarn curve on second Jomtien road. But the pickup driver fled the scene and was headed in their direction.

The pickup truck was a grey-bronzeToyota Vigo driven by a foreigner. But as the truck approached the checkpoint, it did not stop, and instead drove through the checkpoint, nearly hitting some of the officers. So the police started shooting at the wheels of pickup truck to stop the fleeing vehicle.

But one bullet missed the truck and hit an officer in his left knee. He was identified as Pol. Sgt. Maj. Reuangchai Plaichaiyaphum.

Meanwhile, the truck came to a stop after two wheels were flattened by the gunfire. The driver was arrested at the end of Soi Phratamnak 5. The bullets had punctured the truck’s front and back wheels on the driver’s side.
