Sweden has permanently closed its Embassy Section Office in Yangon, transferring responsibility for Swedish affairs in Myanmar to the Swedish Embassy in Bangkok.
The Yangon office announced the closure on social media and said its Facebook account would also be permanently shut down.
Swedish matters relating to Myanmar will from now on be handled by the embassy in the Thai capital. Sweden has not provided a reason for the closure in the announcement.
The closure concerns the Embassy Section Office. Sweden’s honorary consulate in Yangon is still listed on the country’s official foreign service website.
