A recent motorbike collision in Ho Chi Minh City prompted a unique reconciliation session facilitated by local traffic police, highlighting the importance of civility and communication in resolving disputes.

The incident involved N.V.T., a 34-year-old Vietnamese motorbike taxi driver, and Tom H.N., a 53-year-old Norwegian temporary resident. Their reconciliation session took place on December 19, a few days after the collision occurred on December 14.

According to police reports, the collision happened at approximately 9:13 AM on Dien Bien Phu Street in Binh Thanh District. N.V.T. merged into the left lane, colliding with Tom H.N.’s motorbike, which had a passenger riding pillion at the time. Although both riders fell as a result of the impact, they did not sustain any injuries. However, Tom’s vehicle did suffer slight scratches. He chose not to report the incident to authorities at the time.

The situation escalated after a dashcam from a nearby vehicle captured the event and circulated on social media, prompting police intervention. During the reconciliation session, Tom explained that N.V.T.’s motorbike nearly collided with the front of his vehicle earlier, leading to feelings of provocation when N.V.T. reacted angrily after the accident.

N.V.T. acknowledged his behavior and apologized for his response following the incident. In turn, Tom offered his apology for the collision. The two men shook hands, representing their mutual forgiveness, and neither sought compensation for damages.

Both individuals expressed regret to local police for their actions, emphasizing the need for adherence to traffic rules and mindfulness while driving.
