Norwegian travel influencers Tora (32) and Marcus (31), known on social media as @TorasTravels, have sparked debate after sharing a video of their 10-month-old son being transported in a plastic storage bin during a visit to Emerald Cave (Tham Morakot) on Koh Mook Island, Thailand.
The parents posted a video of their family’s adventure, which shows them swimming through the 80-meter-long tunnel of the cave while the baby floats safely in the bin. The Emerald Cave is a popular tourist destination, famous for its hidden beach and crystal-clear lagoon, accessible only by swimming through a narrow water passage.
The video has since garnered more than 530,000 views and sparked a heated debate in the comments.
“We wanted to share this incredible experience as a family. We took all necessary precautions and had the support of our local guide,” says Tora, the baby’s mother.
While some viewers praised the couple’s creative approach to traveling with an infant, others raised concerns about child safety.
“Where’s the life jacket? This seems really unsafe,” wrote one commenter.
In response, the couple explained that their guide had approved the method, ensuring the bin was properly secured with floating vests underneath.
“We understand the concerns,” says Marcus, the father. “But we made sure everything was safe before entering the cave. Traveling with a child sometimes requires unconventional solutions.”
The couple’s decision has ignited a broader conversation about the balance between adventurous travel and child safety, particularly when visiting exotic, less regulated tourist destinations.
