The Philippines has officially inaugurated its reopened embassy in Helsinki, marking a new step in relations between the Philippines and Finland.
Philippine Foreign Affairs Secretary Ma. Theresa Lazaro led the inauguration ceremony at the embassy’s new location in the historic Wuorio building in central Helsinki on 19 May. The embassy originally reopened in October 2024 after previously being closed.
During the ceremony, Lazaro highlighted growing cooperation between the Philippines and Finland, particularly within smart and digital solutions. She also thanked Finland for supporting negotiations on a potential Philippines-European Union free trade agreement.
Finnish Permanent State Secretary Jukka Salovaara attended the event on behalf of the Finnish government. He pointed to expanding economic cooperation and digital partnerships between the two countries, including EU initiatives aimed at strengthening digital connectivity in Southeast Asia.
Officials from ASEAN missions in Helsinki, representatives from the Finnish foreign ministry, and former Philippine honorary consuls also attended the inauguration.
The reopening comes shortly after the Philippines and Finland celebrated 70 years of diplomatic relations in 2025.
