Vietnam values its long-standing friendship with Sweden and welcomes increased Swedish investment, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh said during a meeting in Hanoi with Sweden’s Ambassador to Vietnam Johan Ndisi and Dennis Nobelius, CEO of SYRE, a subsidiary of H&M Group.

The meeting took place on Thursday 30 January, according to Vietnam News Agency.

Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh said Sweden remains one of Vietnam’s leading partners in Northern Europe and reaffirmed Vietnam’s commitment to strengthening bilateral cooperation, particularly in science, technology, innovation, green growth and the circular economy.

He recalled that Vietnam and Sweden established a Strategic Partnership in science, technology and innovation during his visit to Sweden in June 2025.

The Prime Minister welcomed SYRE’s planned investment in Vietnam and instructed relevant ministries, sectors and local authorities to closely coordinate with the company on technology and environmental appraisal procedures, as well as to define an appropriate investment roadmap.

He stressed that all projects must ensure environmental protection, apply modern and highly efficient technology, and deliver mutual benefits. He also underlined the importance of supporting Vietnamese companies’ participation in SYRE’s global supply chain, creating jobs and contributing to the development of a circular economy.

Vietnam, he added, will continue to accompany and provide favourable conditions for foreign investors, including SYRE, in line with Vietnamese law and based on the principle of harmonised interests and shared risks.

For their part, Ambassador Johan Ndisi and SYRE CEO Dennis Nobelius expressed appreciation for Vietnam’s support for Swedish enterprises and investment projects. They welcomed the recent establishment of the EU–Vietnam Comprehensive Strategic Partnership and the Strategic Partnership between Vietnam and Sweden in science, technology and innovation.

Dennis Nobelius said SYRE is developing a global circular textile ecosystem through large-scale recycling centres using high technology and renewable energy, with the ambition of establishing major recycling complexes in strategic regions worldwide.

The Swedish representatives said they will continue working closely with Vietnamese authorities to implement projects aligned with Vietnam’s development orientation under the Resolution of the 14th National Congress of the Communist Party of Vietnam, contributing to stronger relations between Vietnam and the European Union, as well as between Vietnam and Sweden.
