China has expressed strong interest in increasing imports of high-quality goods and advanced technologies from Finland, highlighting a new chapter in trade cooperation between the two countries.

During a meeting on Wednesday 8 May 2025 between Chinese Premier Li Qiang and Finnish President Alexander Stubb in Beijing, both sides reaffirmed their commitment to deepening bilateral economic and technological ties. According to Chinese state media, the two leaders discussed expanding cooperation in areas such as clean energy, green transition, and digital innovation.

Premier Li emphasized that Finland’s strengths in innovation and sustainability complement China’s goals for high-quality development. The countries also pledged to enhance two-way investment and strengthen cooperation under the framework of the China-EU comprehensive strategic partnership.

President Stubb’s visit to China is his first since taking office in March 2024. His discussions with Chinese leaders also touched on multilateral cooperation and global security, amid shifting geopolitical dynamics.

According to China’s Ministry of Commerce, trade between the two countries reached USD 7.5 billion in 2024, with Finnish exports led by machinery, electronics, and forest products. The renewed focus on high-quality imports could provide new opportunities for Finnish firms across a range of sectors.
