Consumer Council warns: Foreign webshops pose as Danish stores

The Danish Consumer Council, Forbrugerrådet Tænk, is warning shoppers about foreign webshops disguised as Danish stores, often using Danish names like “Esbjerg Modehus” or “JensenStil.” Despite their Danish branding, these sites ship products directly from Asia, often leading to quality issues and costly returns.

Senior legal adviser Martin Bruun-Houmølle explains:

“Consumers report items being of much lower quality than advertised. Returning items is nearly impossible, with some paying 500 DKK to return a product worth only 70 DKK.”

The business model resembles platforms like Temu or AliExpress, where orders go straight to manufacturers, bypassing middlemen. Many of these websites operate in a legal gray zone, misleading buyers into believing they’re supporting local businesses.

The Consumer Council advises shoppers to carefully check a site’s origin before making a purchase to avoid unexpected costs and disappointment.
