Denmark has finalized an agreement to acquire the Norwegian-made Naval Strike Missile (NSM) in a deal worth Nkr2.1 billion ($193.28 million). With this acquisition, Denmark becomes the 14th nation to adopt the NSM, joining countries such as Malaysia, Poland, Germany, and the US.
The NSM will replace the aging Harpoon missiles on the Royal Danish Navy’s Iver Huitfeldt-class frigates. The agreement includes the missiles, ship-based equipment, training, and logistical support, with deliveries scheduled between 2025 and 2030.
The NSM, which measures 3.96 meters in length and weighs 407 kilograms, can be launched from various platforms and engage targets at sea and on land. The misiles have autonomous target recognition (ATR) technology designed to ensure accurate detection, recognition, and engagement of the correct target.
