Indonesia and Sweden strengthen healthcare cooperation

Indonesia Sweden healthcare collaboration

Indonesia and Sweden are enhancing their healthcare collaboration through the Sweden-Indonesia Sustainability Partnership (SISP) Healthcare platform. Team Sweden, which includes the Swedish Embassy and Swedish companies, launched this initiative in early 2023. It focuses on five key areas: cancer care, critical emergencies, diabetes, maternal and child health, and digitalization.

Swedish Ambassador Daniel Blockert emphasized the mutual commitment to sustainable development goals. He stated that SISP Healthcare aligns with the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, especially in promoting health and well-being for all.

Moreover, several Swedish companies plan to support Indonesia’s sustainable healthcare agenda next year. Kunta Wibawa Dasa Nugraha, Secretary-General of the Indonesian Health Ministry, shared his hope for tangible outcomes from these commitments. Currently, three Indonesian doctors from Airlangga University are enrolled in the Twinning Doctoral Program at the Karolinska Institute. Their research focuses on maternal, neonatal, and child health, enhancing our understanding in these vital areas.

Additionally, Indonesia’s Quick-Win programs, such as free health check-ups, align with SISP goals. They promote equitable access to healthcare and resilience against climate change. Kunta remarked, “We see strong collaboration that supports Indonesia’s national vision and accelerates the president’s priority programs for sustainable health.”

In 2025, Team Sweden and the Indonesian Health Ministry have outlined a detailed plan. This plan will include high-level dialogues, capacity building, doctoral programs, and anemia academies in public health initiatives. Together, stakeholders commit to addressing challenges and maximizing opportunities for Indonesia’s sustainable health goals.

Team Sweden promotes Swedish exports and investments and supports local businesses in their international efforts. The SISP platform fosters collaboration to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). It launched in 2020 to celebrate the 70th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Sweden and Indonesia.
