Norwegian carried about 2.4 million passengers in May 2015, an increase of 13 percent compared to the same month previous year. The load factor was 84.9 percent, up 7.9 percentage points. However, it is important to view this month´s traffic figures in light of the weak traffic figures of May last year.
In May, Norwegian carried 2,376,151 passengers, an increase of 272,674 passengers compared to the same month in 2014. The total passenger traffic (RPK) increased by 19 percent and the total capacity (ASK) increased by 8 percent this month. The load factor was high, close to 85 percent.
The major growth needs to be seen in connection with the weak traffic figures of May previous year when cabin union Parat was on strike. Now, however, the customers have returned, even after the pilot strike earlier this year, which affected future bookings.
“I´m very pleased with the solid traffic figures, even though the growth seems even stronger in light of the weak May last year. Still, the traffic figures show that an increasing number of customers choose Norwegian. Future summer booking figures are positive, which not least reflect our European and intercontinental growth,” said CEO Bjørn Kjos.
Norwegian operated 99.8 percent of its scheduled flights in May, whereof 85.2 percent departed on time.
