Sweden Opens General Consulate In Manila

After
officially closing its embassy here, the Swedish government has opened an
honorary consulate general in Manila.
    In a
statement posted on its website Monday night, Sweden
said the consulate was set up after it formally designated its embassy in Thailand to handle Swedish relations with the Philippines.
    “Effective
as of 1 June, 2008 the Embassy of Sweden in Manila has been closed. The Embassy of Sweden
in Bangkok is, as from 1 June, 2008 responsible
for Swedish relations with the Philippines.
An Honorary Consulate General will open in Manila on 16 June, 2008,” it said.
    The newly
opened consulate is located at the sixth floor of First Maritime Place at 7458 Bagtikan Street, San Antonio Village, Makati City.
    It can be
reached through telephone at (632) 8961160 and 8961261; by fax at 8960194; and
by email at [email protected].
    Opening
hours are from Monday to Friday, from 9 a.m. to noon.
    “Urgent
consular matters that need attention are referred to the embassy of Sweden in Bangkok.
Please be advised to use the following number:
+66899-961-421,” it said.
    Swedish
nationals who lose their passports will have to contact the embassy of Sweden in Bangkok
using telephone number +66899-961-421.
    On the
other hand, new passport applications shall be made at the Swedish Embassy in Bangkok effective June 1.
    The
Consulate General in Manila
will be able to issue temporary passports as of July 1, 2008.
    As for
applications for Schengen visas, the embassy said people can apply for them in Manila following a
temporary freeze in accepting new applications.
    It said the
embassy of Sweden in Bangkok and its Consulate General in Manila
are providing a visitor’s visa information and application system in the Philippines
through an appointed call center.
    As of June
16, the public will be able to book interviews for residence and work permits
in Manila.
    “Interviews
will take place at the Consulate General in Manila starting 1 July, 2008. Please make
your booking at the Consulate General by either email or telephone,” it
said.
