Football for All in Vietnam (FFAV), a grassroots programme founded by the Football Association of Norway and the Vietnam Football Federation, previously covered by Scandasia, has announced the death of its former director Anders K.A. Krystad.

FFAV said Krystad died peacefully on 4 January 2026 at the age of 69, after a reported battle with cancer.

FFAV credited Krystad as a key driving force behind its focus on non-competitive football and life skills education for children. The programme works with schools and local partners and targets children aged 6 to 15, including disadvantaged groups and rural populations.

FFAV’s initiative supports children’s football in schools, social centres and resettlement areas, and includes activities aimed at promoting women’s football. It has also prioritised inclusion of children with disabilities, ethnic minority backgrounds, and those affected by HIV/AIDS.

“His efforts were remarkable. I will remember Anders as a generous, warm, and inclusive colleague, who also had the ability to challenge and be direct. My thoughts go to his wife Ngoc and the family,” Svein Graff, spokesperson for Vålerenga Fotball Elite, expressed in a press release.

FFAV said funeral services will be held in Huế on 8 January at Phúc Lạc Viên Crematorium in Phú Bài Ward.
