Hong Kong has used a series of Year of the Horse receptions in Sweden and Norway to highlight new trade and investment opportunities between the Nordic region and Asia.

The events were organised by the Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office in London, together with Invest Hong Kong and the Hong Kong Trade Development Council, under a new cooperation framework known as Economic and Trade Express.

On Tuesday 21 January, the Hong Kong delegation co-hosted a business seminar and evening reception in Stockholm with the Hong Kong Chamber of Commerce in Sweden, attracting more than 200 participants from government, business, academia and the cultural sector.

The seminar featured Swedish speakers discussing investment opportunities in Hong Kong and the international expansion of Nordic life science companies.

Addressing the audience, London ETO Director-General Fiona Chau said Sweden’s strengths in sustainable innovation, digital health and clean technologies complement Hong Kong’s role as a gateway to the Chinese mainland and the wider Asian market.

A similar reception was held in Oslo on Wednesday 22 January in cooperation with the Norway-Hong Kong Chamber of Commerce, where more than 80 guests attended.

The discussions focused on clean energy, offshore wind and hydrogen, highlighting how Hong Kong’s capital markets could support Norwegian energy projects seeking international scale.

According to the Hong Kong authorities, the Economic and Trade Express platform was announced in the city’s 2025 Policy Address and is intended to strengthen coordination between overseas trade offices, InvestHK and HKTDC.

The London ETO said it plans to continue marking the Year of the Horse with further activities across Europe aimed at deepening trade and investment links with Hong Kong.
