Swedish solar technology company Midsummer AB has announced a strategic partnership with Eco On, Thailand’s leading solar energy solutions provider, to advance the country’s solar energy market by accelerating the use of lightweight, flexible, and low-carbon solar panels in the country.
The collaboration follows Midsummer’s recent agreement with Saab AB, a key step toward establishing a 200 MW solar cell facility in Thailand to support the country’s renewable energy infrastructure. Eco On, formerly Gold Stone Energy Thailand, will manage the distribution and installation of Midsummer’s innovative panels.
“We are delighted to collaborate with Midsummer to offer cutting-edge solar solutions that address weaknesses in existing roofs,” says Eco On’s Managing Director and Co-Founder, Ariya Sawangsri. The lightweight nature of Midsummer’s BOLD panels makes them ideal for commercial buildings and offshore floating solar installations.
Midsummer CEO Eric Jaremalm highlighted Thailand’s potential as a key market due to abundant sunshine and the structural limitations of many roofs.
“Many buildings here have roofs unsuitable for conventional heavy panels,” Eric Jaremalm explains. “Our technology fits perfectly with these conditions, and we look forward to contributing to Thailand’s renewable energy goals.”
The partnership supports Thailand’s Climate Change Master Plan and its target of achieving carbon neutrality by 2050 and net-zero emissions by 2065. By bringing advanced solar technology to the local market, the companies aim to play a vital role in Thailand’s clean energy transition.
According to Renewable Energy Magazine, this distribution agreement will significantly expand Midsummer’s reach in Asia, leveraging Eco On’s expertise in local solar projects. The collaboration also aligns with Thailand’s Power Development Plan, which aims to increase renewable energy to 30% of total electricity consumption by 2037.
