Philippine energy company ACEN has partnered with Norwegian floating solar company Ocean Sun AS to expand floating solar projects across Asia, Manila Bulletin reports.

The agreement was signed through ACEN-Silverwolf, a joint venture between ACEN Renewables International and Silverwolf Capital. The companies signed a non-binding memorandum of understanding covering utility-scale floating solar projects on freshwater reservoirs and inland water areas.

Under the partnership, Ocean Sun will contribute its patented floating solar technology and maritime expertise. ACEN-Silverwolf will provide regional development experience and renewable energy capabilities.

Ocean Sun operates from Oslo, Singapore and Shanghai. The company has developed a floating solar system using hydro-elastic membranes designed to improve cost and performance.

ACEN-Silverwolf currently operates more than 100 megawatts of renewable energy projects across Asia, including in China, Hong Kong, Malaysia, Thailand and Singapore.

ACEN said it aims to achieve net-zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050 and currently has around seven gigawatts of renewable energy capacity in operation, under construction or under development.
