A Swedish man surrendered to police in Phuket after allegedly assaulting an Indian hotel owner in Patong following a dispute over missing money, local media reports.

The incident took place outside the Patong Platinum Hotel on 18 May. Video shared on social media showed the Swedish man arguing with an Indian man inside the hotel lobby.

During the confrontation, the Indian man picked up a chair and appeared to threaten the Swede, who then left the building. The Swedish man later returned and allegedly slapped another Indian man outside the hotel before fleeing again.

The Indian victim, identified as 42-year-old Bahrat Kumawat, later filed a complaint with Patong Police Station. Local media reported he suffered injuries to his head and left arm.

According to local reports, the Swedish man later contacted local media and arranged to surrender to police. He admitted to the assault and apologised publicly, but claimed a hotel employee had stolen 6,000 baht from him before the incident.

Police accepted complaints from both sides. The Swedish man also filed a counter-complaint accusing hotel staff of theft. Authorities reportedly arranged a further meeting between the parties on 20 May.
