A magnitude 7.8 earthquake struck off the coast of Sarangani in Mindanao on 8 June, causing widespread destruction across several provinces. At least 37 people have been confirmed dead, hundreds have been injured, and thousands have been forced to leave their homes.

Amid the growing humanitarian crisis, the Embassy of Sweden in Manila issued a message of sympathy and support to the Filipino people, Politiko reports.

“The Embassy of Sweden in Manila stands in solidarity with the Filipino people during this difficult time,” the Swedish mission said in a statement.

Sweden was among several countries that quickly responded with messages of condolence as rescue teams continued searching for survivors in the hardest-hit areas.

The earthquake affected more than 77,000 people across Mindanao. Buildings and infrastructure suffered extensive damage, while power and communication services were disrupted in several communities.

The Embassy of Sweden also extended its condolences to the victims and their families as local authorities worked to assess the full scale of the disaster.

Relief and recovery operations are continuing across the affected provinces as authorities work to restore essential services and assist displaced families.
