Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (UNIMAS) and the University of Copenhagen have launched the SLUSE 2026 joint field course on sustainable land use and natural resource management.
UNIMAS said the programme involves 39 students and three lecturers from the Danish university. The field component is being carried out in six villages in the Sarikei area of Sarawak.
According to UNIMAS Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr Ahmad Hata Rasit, the course focuses on sustainable land use, natural resource management and community engagement in rural settings. He said SLUSE combines academic frameworks with local knowledge through interdisciplinary learning.
Representatives from the University of Copenhagen, Xiaoye Tong and Marieve Pouliot, attended the launch. UNIMAS said the cohort’s fieldwork framework and methodology were presented by SLUSE-Malaysia coordinators Wong Swee Kiong and Siti Nurbaidzuri Raily.
