Swedish business delegation trip to East Kalimantan

The relationship between Sweden and Indonesia has grown undeniably stronger in recent years. In 2011, the trade between Sweden and Indonesia grew by 35 per cent, and the Swedish business community is increasing its presence in the Indonesian market.


Companies such as IKEA, H&M, Volvo and ABB realise Indonesia’s huge potential and these Swedish companies are already very active in Java, however, more companies are also focusing on other parts of Indonesia, and making efforts towards closer relations with other regions.


This is the reason the Swedish Embassy in Jakarta, headed by Ambassador HE Ewa Polano, in cooperation with the Swedish Trade Council and the Swedish Business Association in Indonesia, is making its first trip with a business delegation outside of Java to East Kalimantan, on 19 and 20 September 2012.


During the visit, the delegation will meet with the Honorable Mayor of Balikpapan, Mr. HM Rizal Effendi and the Honorable vice Governor of East Kalimantan, Drs. H. Farid Wadjdy.


The new Balikpapan office of PT Volvo Indonesia will be inaugurated by Ambassador Ewa Polano and Mayor Rizal Effendi during the trip.


Managing Director PT Volvo Indonesia P.J. Verge-Salamon said “In line with the Volvo Group’s focus on the Indonesian market to participate in its growth and contribute to the economy, we are increasing our presence in Kalimantan by setting up our office in Balikpapan.”


“With this we will now be even closer to our customers in Kalimantan to support them in getting the best performance out of our products,” he added.


The program also includes round-table talk about the economic cooperation and investment opportunities with KADIN Indonesia of East Kalimantan, Balikpapan, and Samarinda.

These companies are eager to participate in the significant development of East Kalimantan, and the purpose of the visit is to help realise the great potential in cooperation between Sweden and East Kalimantan.


Ambassador HE Mrs. Ewa Polano expressed that she is very excited and proud to be able to present some of the most innovative and successful Swedish companies to the East Kalimantan decision-makers and business community.


“I hope that the visit will result in increased cooperation between Sweden and East Kalimantan,” she said.
