Finnish manufacturer of power plants Wärtsilä announced on their website that:
A consortium led by Wärtsilä has won two contracts for power plants on the outskirts of Phnom Penh, Cambodia in early summer 2005.
One project is for a 45 MW power plant running on heavy fuel oil to be built for Cambodia Electricity Pte Co Ltd (CEP), an independent power producer. The plant is being built under a turnkey contract for delivery in June 2006 and will generate power for the Cambodian grid.
The other project is a 15.6 MW power plant extension for Khmer Electrical Power Co Ltd (KEP). The plant is used to provide baseload, burning heavy fuel oil, and similarly delivers electricity to the Cambodian national grid. The extension will be built on to a 30 MW power plant previously supplied by Wärtsilä.
The consortium building the power plants comprises Wärtsilä, Singapore-based Comin Asia Pte Ltd, and Comin Khmere Ltd, a Cambodian company.
