Thailand calls on Danish biotech expertise

Thailand has called on Danish expertise to assist with its DKK 1.5 billion (USD 210 million) science park north of Bangkok. Researchers from the Danish food ingredient giant Chr. Hansen have been asked to construct a “wish list” for building a state of the art biotech laboratory and fermentation plant. Two researchers from the company, Per Stroman og Peter Sorensen, have now completed the project.
The equipment inventory they have compiled will cost an estimated DKK 150 million (USD 21 million), and the Thai authorities are currently considering the proposal.
Thailand normally earmarks up to DKK 80 million (USD 11 million) each year for food research, the most important areas being black tiger prawns, chickens, sugar cane and rice. The new science park is located 70 km north of Bangkok and covers an area of approximately 32 hectares.
