China and Finland celebrated the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations on 28 October 2025. In an op-ed, Chinese Ambassador Wang Tongqing highlighted long-standing mutual respect, Finland’s early support for the People’s Republic of China at the UN, and recent high-level exchanges including President Alexander Stubb’s state visit to China in October last year and Speaker Jussi Halla-aho’s visit in April 2025.
According to Wang, the two countries issued a Joint Action Plan for a “Future-oriented New-type Cooperative Partnership” for 2025–2029 and maintain mechanisms such as the Economic and Trade Joint Committee and the Joint Committee on Science and Technology Cooperation.
Trade between China and Finland have reached 14.121 billion€ in 2024, up 7.5% year-on-year and accounting for 6.14% of Finland’s total foreign trade.
Over 200 Finnish companies—including Nokia, KONE and UPM—operate in China, while Chinese firms such as Huawei, Easpring Material Technology and COSCO SHIPPING Lines have invested in Finland.
Cooperation includes about 80 joint meteorology projects covering environmental meteorology and climate change, alongside prospects in green development, IT, digital economy, AI and new energy.
People-to-people links were underscored by winter sports collaboration and tourism. Visit Finland recorded China as Finland’s largest Asian source market in 2024, with Chinese visitors spending an average of 1,435€ per trip.
Chinese language courses are offered across Finnish schools, and the “Happy Chinese New Year in Finland” programme has run for 19 consecutive years.
Wang said China is ready to deepen cooperation with Finland under multilateral frameworks and to advance the bilateral partnership outlined in the 2025–2029 plan.
