Danish students join history class at Indonesian university

Two Danish students visited UNNES in Indonesia to observe history teaching and strengthen academic ties.

Two students from VIA University College in Denmark recently attended a history-related class at Universitas Negeri Semarang (UNNES) in Indonesia.

Cecilie Andersen and Clara Bucio Broch-Mikkelsen have been staying in Semarang for six weeks as part of a short academic visit. On 6 March, they joined a Social Conservation class at the university’s Faculty of Social and Political Sciences.

Before the lecture began, the two Danish students introduced themselves to around 40 second-semester students. They then observed the class, which focused on Indonesia’s cultural diversity and classroom teaching methods.

Cecilie said she was especially interested in Indonesian history and the way history is taught at UNNES. Clara, who is doing a teaching internship with history as her main subject, said she wanted to see how history is taught in an Indonesian university classroom.

UNNES said the visit gave the Danish students a chance to observe teaching practices in Indonesia firsthand. The university also said the activity could help strengthen educational ties with VIA University College in Denmark.
