Denmark’s government has warned that postal votes from abroad may not arrive in time for the general election on 24 March, Reuters reports.
The warning comes as war in Iran continues to disrupt global air traffic. Key hubs in Dubai, Doha and Abu Dhabi have been affected, delaying both passengers and cargo.
According to the Danish Ministry of Foreign Affairs, postal votes cast in countries hit by the disruption may miss the deadline. This applies to votes from the Middle East and possibly also from parts of Asia.
For Danes living in Asia, the problem is that international mail to Europe often passes through the Middle East. That raises the risk of delayed ballots.
The ministry said it cannot guarantee that affected overseas votes will arrive in time to be counted. It did not say how many Danes abroad may be impacted.
