Ferry fares are set to jump dramatically this Friday.

For the first time in ten years, prices are rising as diesel costs soar, a consequence of global fuel instability, Bangkok Post reports.

Trat Governor Piriya Chanthadilok, who chaired the fare committee, announced that adult tickets will jump from 80 to 130 baht, while fares for children, students, and monks will rise from 30 to 70 baht. Motorcycles will now cost between 130 and 200 baht depending on whether they have sidecars.

Fees for four-wheel vehicles will increase from 120 to 280 baht, six-wheelers from 450 to 1,000 baht, ten-wheel trucks from 900 to 1,600 baht, and the largest 18-wheeled trailer trucks will see fares climb from 1,800 to 3,200 baht.

The committee has not yet set fares for ferries to Koh Kut and Koh Mak. Diesel, which once cost under 30 baht per litre, has now surged past 50 baht, making this hike unavoidable.
