Swedish home furnishing giant IKEA reaffirmed its long-term commitment to the Chinese market at the China International Import Expo (CIIE) in Shanghai, focusing on innovation, sustainability, and inclusive design.
“The CIIE gives us the opportunity to present our innovations while gaining insights into market and consumer trends. It strengthens our connection with China and reinforces our long-term confidence in this market,” says Lydia Song, deputy CEO of IKEA China.
The 2025 expo coincides with the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Sweden and China. IKEA marked the occasion with its FOSSTA Chinese New Year collection, featuring the horse as a shared cultural symbol between the two nations.
The company also showcased its age-friendly home designs to meet the needs of China’s growing “silver economy.” Since 2024, Ikea has joined Shanghai’s green home appliance subsidy program, offering up to 30 percent discounts on about 140 senior-friendly products.
“We believe that walking with China means walking with the future. The CIIE is a bridge for innovation, collaboration, and shared progress,” Song says.
