Swedish parliamentary delegation strengthens ties with Vietnam

A delegation from the Swedish Parliamentary Foreign Affairs Committee, led by Chairman Aron Emilsson, is currently visiting Vietnam to reinforce political, economic, and cultural ties between the two nations. The visit, which began earlier this week, has included meetings with high-ranking Vietnamese officials as well as visits to historical sites in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City.

During their time in Hanoi, the delegation met with Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Bui Thanh Son to discuss strengthening bilateral relations. Talks focused on enhancing regional and multilateral cooperation, tackling global challenges such as security, peace, and sustainable development. Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to a dynamic partnership, aiming to expand collaboration in key sectors.

The delegation also met with National Assembly Vice Chairman Tran Quang Phuong, where discussions highlighted the importance of political trust and regular exchanges between the two countries. Sweden and Vietnam explored new opportunities in trade, investment, education, and cultural cooperation, underlining a shared vision for sustainability and long-term growth.

Beyond diplomatic meetings, the delegation took time to explore Vietnam’s history. In Hanoi, they visited the Hoa Lo Prison Relic, a site deeply tied to Vietnam’s colonial past and the Vietnam War. The visit provided insight into Vietnam’s resilience and the nation’s struggle for independence.

Following their engagements in the capital, the delegation traveled to Ho Chi Minh City, where they visited the War Remnants Museum. A key moment of the visit was their reflection on Sweden’s historical support for Vietnam’s independence, particularly through the “MED FNL FÖR VIETNAMS FOLK” banner, which translates to “With the FNL for the People of Vietnam.” This reminder of Sweden’s solidarity with Vietnam in the 1970s emphasized the long-standing ties between the two nations.

The visit underscores Sweden and Vietnam’s continued commitment to peace, economic cooperation, and historical understanding. As the delegation’s tour continues, their meetings and cultural visits reaffirm the deep connection between the two countries and pave the way for strengthened collaboration in the future.
