For the 13th consecutive year, Sundsvall in northern Sweden is hosting the Thai Festival – a celebration of Thai culture through food, performances, and sports. The event takes place from 2 to 5 July 2025 and offers locals a chance to experience a slice of Thailand without leaving Sweden.
“It’s a lot of work,” says Konkurs Boonvijitr, one of the organisers, speaking to SVT News shortly after the festival opened.
The festival has become a beloved tradition in Sundsvall, attracting both members of the Thai community and Swedes with an interest in Southeast Asian culture.
Siriporn Kiangkang, who is selling bubble tea at the event, highlights the authenticity of the food being served.
“This is real Thai food – not just the kind made for tourists,” she says.
Popular dishes at the festival include Som Tam (green papaya salad), Look Chin (meatballs on skewers), and a variety of noodle soups. Visitors also get a chance to sample traditional drinks, such as Longan juice – a sweet beverage made from the tropical longan fruit.
