The Environment Fund of the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (SEF), has over the past two years provided US$308,000 to fund environmental protection projects in Vietnam, according to figure released at the forum “Localities’ Participation in Environmental Protection Activities” held in Hanoi on Friday, December 19.
These SEF-funded projects aim to raise public awareness and knowledge of environmental protection, including sand storm prevention projects in the central province of Quang Tri, a waste treatment programme in the northern province of Thai Binh, and a project for poor women in Cam Nhan district in the northern mountainous province of Yen Bai. The Cam Nhan project provided local women with a basic knowledge of the environment, breeding techniques and pesticide use, thus helping raise their income and improve their living conditions.
