Norwegian Transport and Communications Committee Visits Singapore

The Standing Committee on Transport and Communications of the Norwegian Parliament recently visited Singapore.

The Committee wanted to gain insight into Singapore’s comprehensive, systematic and long term planning of its infrastructure, with a particular focus on sea and road transport and on communication & information technologies.

Official meetings included Economic Development Board (EDB), Infocomm Development Authority (iDA), Public Transport Council (PTC), Maritime and Port Authority (MPA), Land Transport Authority (LTA) and the Civil Aviation Authorities.

Particularly EDB and MPA are close cooperation partners with a number of Norwegian companies and organizations.

The Committee had the opportunity to tour Singapore’s Parliament and meet with parliamentary counterparts. Discussions centered on public transport and traffic regulation, and also on similarities and differences between the Norwegian and the Singaporean parliamentary systems.

The visit furthermore included meetings with the Norwegian business community in Singapore. The Committee heard presentations from several representatives of Norwegian companies located in Singapore which gave them an increased insight in the benefits and challenges of doing business in the region as well as Singapore’s important role as a hub.
