Thai Diplomatic Red Cross Bazaar Officially Launched

The Thai Diplomatic Red Cross Bazaar was officially launched at the Siam Paragon, Bangkok at 8am today. HRH Crown Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn presided ovewr the opening

Hosted by the diplomatic wives together with the Thai Red Cross Society, the bazaar presented booths from 52 countries, including Denmark and Norway, exhibiting their national handicrafts, food and specialties for the public to see and buy.

Southeast Asian countries such as China, Indonesia, Singapore, Phillipines and Malaysia also promoted their cultural ornaments at the bazaar.

The organising committee’s  expectations of a larger crowd this year may not fall short as there were large crowds of people entering the Royal Paragon Hall to see the interesting displays of the various countries.

When asked about the mission of the event, Royal Danish Embassy’s Ratanawadee Hemniti Winther, said it is annually held to support the cause of the Thai Red Cross Society.

“The Red Cross Society receives the fund from this bazaar and once they get it, they distribute it to their respective channels,” she said explaining that there was more than one division in the society.

There were additions to the participating countries this year making the event more colourful and fascinating.

The bazaar is open from 10.00am until 9pm on both Saturday (26.2.2011) and Sunday (27.2.2011).
