Chinese tech giant Huawei sponsors new exchange programme to encourage cross-cultural innovation by Danish IT and engineering students.
10 carefully selected Danish IT and engineering students will soon be travelling to China for a high-tech and cultural trip. Cooperation between Huawei, Invest in Denmark and Danish universities has made the exchange programme possible.
“We are expanding our business in Denmark and for us it’s important to learn more about the Danish culture, values and competencies of the students. By giving them the opportunity to go to China we are hopeful that we will have a mutual exchange of experiences”, said James Chen, Managing Director Huawei Nordics & Baltics.
During the trip to China the students will visit Huawei’s headquarters in Shenzhen, including the data centre, logistics centre, production centre and Huawei’s own university. The final destination of the trip is Huawei’s state of the art research and development centre in Shanghai that employs over 8000 engineers.
The idea was initially presented to the Danish Minister for Foreign Affairs, Ms. Lene Espersen, in November 2010 during a meeting with Huawei’s, CEO, Mr. Ren Zhengfei.

We are glad to be part of this setup and hope to see even more collaboration and partnership between Huawei and the research and development community in Denmark now, and in the future,” said Anne H Steffensen, State Secretary for Trade and Corporate Affairs, Danish Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Huawei was recently awarded the Economist’s Innovation Award and has been ranked among the top four global patent applicants by the World Intellectual Property Organization since 2007.
