Documentary How to Pick Berries takes Award in Denmark

A Finnish documentary on the annual phenomenon of Thai berry-pickers, entitled How to Pick Berries and directed by Elina Talvensaari, was given the FEDEORA Award at the Nordisk Panorama Film Festival in Aarhus, Denmark.

The jury of the competition stated that ”How to Pick Berries is a visually poetical and technically superb documentary. The film deals in a mystical way with a fragment of social reality and simultaneously leaves it up to the viewers themselves to reflect upon the perspectives of the movie”.

In 2010, Elina Talvensaari’s short film, written jointly by her and Mauro Fariñas and described as “a film about the Finnish heart and the peculiarities of the global economy”, won for example the first prize in the short film competition at the International Film Festival in Bratislava, Slovakia.

Nordisk Panorama is the main meeting point for the short and documentary film sector in the Nordic countries, rotating annually between Malmö (Sweden), Reykjavik (Iceland), Bergen (Norway), Aarhus (Denmark), and Oulu (Finland). Some 600 to 800 film professionals attend the festival every year.

The FEDEORA is the Federation of Film Critics of Europe and the Mediterranean.
