Foreigners in Vietnam could now face faster deportation under sweeping new rules that came into force this week.

The changes allow authorities to remove people more quickly if they fail to pay fines or violate local regulations – in some cases immediately, according to Vietnam News Agency.

Can be deported on the spot

Under the new rules, foreigners who cannot pay administrative fines may be deported straight away, instead of having their case delayed.

At the same time, authorities have cut red tape, giving police and immigration officials more power to act quickly.

The deportation process is also going fully digital for the first time. That means faster case handling and less room to delay decisions.

More rights to foreigners

Despite the tougher approach, foreigners will also get clearer rights

They must now be told why they are being deported at least 48 hours in advance and can contact their embassy, request a review, and get legal help.
