Two Thai women have been sentenced in Denmark for human trafficking and running brothels under degrading conditions, involving Thai nationals recruited to work in Jutland.
According to a ruling at the District Court in Kolding, the women recruited 25 Thai women for prostitution between October 2023 and December 2024. Five of the victims were found to have been trafficked.
The women, identified in court as 40-year-old Jutharat Jarndee and 48-year-old Tikamporn Maisri Hansen, were sentenced to three years and six months, and four years in prison respectively. Both were ordered to be deported — Jarndee with a six-year entry ban and Hansen permanently.
Police investigations showed the women collected the victims at the airport, housed them at addresses in Horsens and Fredericia, and controlled their movements, working hours, meals, and earnings. The victims were reportedly required to work from 09:00 to 22:00 daily and did not choose which services to provide. Conditions at the locations included mould and poor sanitation.
Authorities confiscated DKK 500,000 from each defendant, assessed as proceeds of the criminal activity. Both women have appealed the verdict.
Vice Police Inspector Sønke Iwersen said the case strengthens future efforts against human trafficking, noting that the investigation methods developed could support similar cases.
