Denmark’s Ambassador to Malaysia, Kirstine Vangkilde Berner, has invited the Premier of Sarawak, Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg, to visit Denmark to further strengthen bilateral ties and explore strategic partnerships in the green technology industry.

The invitation was extended during a courtesy call at the Satria Pertiwi Complex in Kuching on Thursday – Berner’s first official visit to Sarawak since her appointment last year.

“We have a strong presence in the green energy sector through experienced companies in Denmark and we see a huge opportunity in working together with Sarawak in the transition to sustainable energy, from green hydrogen to carbon capture technology,” Berner said at a press conference after the meeting.

Both parties also discussed potential collaborations in the education sector, with Denmark expressing interest in supporting Sarawak’s education agenda.

According to Berner, Sarawak’s commitment to energy transition and sustainable development is highly praised by the political leadership in Denmark. She added that Denmark is also ready to forge partnerships in other sectors including the aerospace industry and Artificial Intelligence (AI), which aligns with Sarawak’s aspirations to move towards a high-tech economy.

Berner also stressed Denmark’s commitment to strengthening ties with Malaysia, viewing the country as a strategic hub in Southeast Asia.

Also present at the meeting was Fenny Nuli, Director of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Sarawak Regional Office.
