Ericsson’s chief predicts that investing in new infrastructure will help industries like manufacturing and healthcare grow.
Andres Vicente, the head of Ericsson for Southeast Asia, Oceania, and India, has asked the Thai government to lower or remove fees for using radio wave frequencies. He believes that instead of focusing on making money from these fees, the government should help companies build faster wireless networks. This would help people start using new technology sooner and improve the economy.
Vicente pointed out that countries like China, the US, and Australia have low spectrum fees, which helped them roll out 5G quickly. He thinks that investing in new infrastructure, like 2.1GHz, 2.3GHz, and 3.5GHz frequencies, could greatly boost Thailand’s economy, with the telecom sector contributing 25 percent to Gross Domestic Product (GDP) by 2027.
Ericsson predicts that Thailand will have 45 million 5G users by 2025, helping industries like manufacturing and healthcare grow. Vicente also mentioned how AI and edge computing can improve the telecom industry even more.
