Finland’s Minister for Foreign Trade and Development, Ville Tavio, led a Finnish business delegation to the Philippines from October 24-25. Companies like Wärtsilä Corp., KONE, and Ramboll Finland Oy joined the visit to explore opportunities in energy, infrastructure and waste management.
Tavio described the Philippines as one of Southeast Asia’s fastest-growing economies. He highlighted the government’s commitment to clean energy and infrastructure, which opens doors for Finnish companies in power plant construction, waste management, and airport development.
During the trip, Tavio met with Foreign Affairs Secretary Enrique Manalo and Trade Undersecretary Ceferino Rodolfo. They discussed a potential free trade agreement (FTA) between the European Union and the Philippines. Tavio noted that an FTA, similar to the EU-Vietnam agreement, could significantly boost trade.
Currently, Finnish exports to the Philippines are valued at €140 million per year.
