Travellers flying in Asia may soon need to rethink what they pack in their hand luggage.
New international safety rules now limit passengers to carrying a maximum of two power banks – and ban using or charging them during flights.
Singapore will enforce the rules on flights departing from April 15, 2026, according to Civil Aviation Authority of Singapore.
Already rolling out in Asia
The new rules are already being implemented by airlines in the region.
Thai Airways introduced similar restrictions on March 27, 2026, limiting passengers to two power banks and banning their use onboard.x
Under the new rules:
- You can bring a maximum of two power banks
- Power banks must be kept in your carry-on (not checked baggage)
- You cannot use or charge them during the flight
- Some airlines may require approval for larger power banks
The rules are meant to reduce safety risks, as lithium batteries in power banks can overheat and potentially catch fire during flights.
