The Swedish Restaurant at Ikea’s Cheras outlet in Kuala Lumpur has been ordered to close for 14 days by Malaysian health authorities.
According to The Sun Malaysia, the closure took effect on June 17 and is expected to remain in force until July 1 under provisions of Malaysia’s Food Act 1983.

The closure attracted attention after photographs of an official notice issued by the Kuala Lumpur and Putrajaya Federal Territories Health Department began circulating on social media.
In a statement, Ikea Malaysia confirmed that the restaurant had been temporarily closed while maintenance work was being carried out to ensure continued compliance with hygiene standards set by both Ikea and local health authorities.

Ikea said the closure only affects the Swedish Restaurant at its Cheras outlet. The Ikea Café and Bistro at the store remain open, while the company’s other Swedish Restaurants in Damansara, Tebrau and Batu Kawan continue operating as normal.
Authorities have not disclosed the specific reason for the closure order.
