Myanmar has appointed Norwegian football coach Jørn Andersen as the new head coach of the country’s men’s national team, the Myanmar Football Federation (MFF) announced on Wednesday.
The 63-year-old replaces former head coach Myo Hlaing Win after signing a two-year contract with the Myanmar Football Federation.
“I will work to help develop Myanmar players and achieve as much success as possible with the national team,” Andersen said.
Former Bundesliga top scorer
Andersen has previously coached the national teams of North Korea and Hong Kong, while also managing clubs in China and South Korea.
Before moving to Asia, the former Norwegian international striker built his coaching career in Europe, including Germany’s Mainz, where he led the team to promotion to the Bundesliga.
As a player, Andersen represented Norway 27 times and became the first foreign player to finish as top scorer in the German Bundesliga when he scored 18 goals for Eintracht Frankfurt during the 1989-90 season.
Myanmar’s first match under Andersen will be an international friendly against Vietnam on 18 July, before the team begins its regional tournament campaign later this summer.
